"Winter" breakdowns are happening earlier and earlier

"Unplanned maintenance". That dreaded text message which means high capacity boats are taken out of service for any length of time. This time it was Superflyte which, reportedly, struck a 'submerged object' that knocked out one of the rotor blades. So off to Whangarei for repairs and off the run until at least the weekend. And we collectively hold our breath.

You have also noticed the monthly pass price went back up to $350 in February. I innocently asked the counter attendant whether that would mean more boats (or even boats that run and arrive on time), but she laughed hollowly at me. Welcome back to the cost-plus-plus world of Fullers.

hum...time to rethink that commute, perhaps.

Happened again yesterday. Seems the 1pm to Waiheke got most of the way to the island, then threw an engine and limped back to town.

I was on the 2pm, so we waited (with no useful explanation)until 2.30, picked up another 200-odd disgruntled passengers and off we went. Complete with foul-smelling Quickcat air-con...

I do feel for the staff, who were typically apologetic about it all. But, this is some sort of a trend...

Our family of 5 all commute on the ferry. I pay $250 per month, my parents $350 each, and my 2 sisters $180 per month. Grand total is $1,310 per month! It's crippling. We've decided we have to sell our home on waiheke and move to a rental in the city because the ferry fares are more than we can afford and it's beyond our means, as much as we love this island, it's over $15,000 in a year, and we've been doing this for 5 years, so around $75,000 we've paid to fullers- mostly on credit card! We just can't keep it up
